Today was awesome...I spent the day shadowing the teacher whose classes I'll be taking in a few weeks. During planning we shared ideas and during the class periods I got to meet the kids. She had a great idea for the ninth grade class: she set up two chairs in the front of the room and staged a "talk show" during which she asked me some interview questions about myself, then had the "audience" ask questions. It was fun and I really feel as though I set their minds at ease.
One of the administrators had a fantastic idea...she gave me a copy of last year's notebook so I could start placing names with faces and get a feel for the school culture. Brilliant! Every new teacher should be so lucky. If I'm hired back this fall (and I'll jump at the opportunity), I'll be sure to buy a copy of this year's. Besides, it makes a wonderful keepsake of the best first year teaching assignment I could imagine. What a blessing!
