It's official...yesterday afternoon at about 4:30 I met with the principal of one of the local private schools and signed a contract to teach during the spring semester. I am absolutely delighted! To top it off, when I wrote to the History department chair at UAH to thank him for referring me, he responded by telling me that I am going to be honored as one of the top two College of Liberal Arts graduates at commencement! I was floored...I mean, I know I was an overachiever despite having three school-age kids and a frequent flyer husband, but wow! That's just unbelievable!
Listen up, kids: hard work pays off in the end. The tassel is, indeed, worth the hassle. Be the best darn student you can be, don't take yourself too seriously, give it your all as a teacher (student, substitute, or otherwise), and enjoy every victory. Never stop learning, and never stop reflecting. I'll see you on the other side.
